Facebook Video Transcription
Turn speech into text directly in your browser, with TXT, SRT, and VTT export — no upload to a third-party server required for live transcription.
How this actually works: your browser's built-in speech recognition listens to audio playing near your microphone (for example, a Facebook video playing on your screen) and transcribes it live. This runs entirely in Chrome or Edge without a backend. Transcribing an already-downloaded file automatically (without playing it aloud) requires a connected speech-to-text backend — this page tells you plainly when that's the case rather than faking a result.
What this tool does
It converts spoken audio into text, and exports that text as a plain transcript (TXT) or as timed captions (SRT, VTT) for use in video editors and players.
Supported inputs
Live microphone or system audio in a supporting browser (Chrome, Edge). File-based transcription of a downloaded video/audio file requires a connected speech-to-text backend.
SRT vs. VTT
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| SRT | Most desktop video editors and media players |
| VTT | Web video (HTML5 <track>), YouTube uploads |
Troubleshooting
"Start listening" is disabled
Your browser doesn't support the Web Speech API. Try the latest Chrome or Edge.
Nothing is transcribed
Check microphone permissions in your browser's site settings, and make sure audio is actually playing near the mic.
Privacy
Live transcription happens using your browser's own speech engine; audio is not uploaded to our servers for this feature. See the privacy policy for details on any backend-connected features.
